Guided by a simple but strongly-held philosophy that access to quality housing is a fundamental right for all New Yorkers, Brian Hourigan has charted a steady rise within the leadership team of BOND New York and the New York City real estate industry at large. Currently serving in the dual role of Managing Director and Director of Professional Development, where he is both the most senior MD and the youngest person at the firm to earn that title, Brian oversees a sprawling portfolio of responsibilities, which includes implementing broad policy goals + operational initiatives for BOND’s 500+ agents, developing original educational content for BOND University as well as continuing professional enrichment programming company-wide, and directly supervising the work of the firm’s industry-leading, award-winning Residential Leasing Division, which is based out of four offices throughout the City.
Under Brian’s leadership, agent innovation and collaboration for the benefit of the firm’s clients have become hallmarks of success which distinguish BOND New York among its competitors; moreover, over the past 2 years, the firm has enjoyed its largest growth in rental market share, overall transaction volume, and profitability in its 23 year history, after overcoming the uncertain challenges of the pandemic market during Brian’s stewardship. The residential division also boasts a notably high agent retention and return rate (accounting for agents who have left and then returned to the firm), which attests to both the opportunities and workplace cultural satisfaction afforded to professionals at all levels of their career at BOND New York.
Additionally, Brian has played an integral role in developing the proprietary software that serves as the cornerstone of Bentley, the firm’s custom-built end-to-end integrated listings database, CRM, and back-end accounting systems for all BOND agents. Executing on the tech-driven vision of the principal partners, Brian has also most recently overseen the company-wide rollout of the most comprehensive app-based lead distribution and transaction accountability management system in the industry, supported by ConnectNow technology.
Above all, Brian believes passionately in promoting a culture of inclusion, continuous professional education, and strict ethical standards among his team, and finds it fulfilling to collaborate with stakeholders across the industry to raise the bar of professional service for the public’s benefit. Brian is a proud member of the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY) and sits on the Residential Rental Committee, where he enjoys the benefits of sharing knowledge and learning from his esteemed colleagues throughout the residential community.
Due to his broad perspective of market conditions and trends, Brian’s insights have been sought by respected publications large and small, including the New York Times, the New York Post, The Real Deal, Gothamist / WNYC, and Brick Underground, and he’s been featured in real estate related web articles and podcasts as far away as Lithuania. Brian was also profiled by Bloomberg News in the Summer of 2022.
Outside of the office, Brian enjoys embarking on international travels as much as participating in local cultural adventures, including attending live music events or the City’s world-class theater whenever possible. He’s a dedicated runner and cyclist, which offsets the fact that he is also an unapologetic foodie who enjoys exploring the diverse culinary wealth of all five boroughs. In his spare time, Brian volunteers with and contributes to organizations near and dear to his heart, including New York Cares, Habitat for Humanity, City Harvest, The Trust for Governors Island, the Audubon Society, and the Nature Conservancy. He is an alumnus of New York University, where he holds dual degrees in History and Politics, and now lives on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, after spending much of his 20’s residing exclusively below 14th Street.
